Membership Registration Process

Professional Membership of the IIA SA identifies you as working or studying in internal audit or a related area such as risk management, compliance and governance.

Being a member of the Institute means being part of a community of like-minded professionals, who collectively form the face of the profession. It provides you with the opportunity to contribute to building the profession and shaping its future, while ensuring that it is safeguarded against becoming irrelevant and ignored. It also provides the internal auditor with the opportunity of being recognised by the market as a professional as well as with access to services that are aimed at assisting the internal auditor in realising his/her full potential in service of the greater good.

Please see below the step by step process for Registering for Professional Membership:

  Step 1: Prepare the required documentation
   

You will be required to submit a Character Reference Form, an Experience Verification form, CV and certified copies of your Highest Academic Qualification and Identity Document or Passport as part of the membership application process. Please click here for detailed information on the required documentation.

If you are applying for Student Membership, you will need to you will also need to submit confirmation of your enrolment as a full time student at a recognised tertiary institution.

You will have an opportunity to upload the documentation as part of the registration process. Ideally you should have scanned copies of the documentation below prior to beginning the registration process.

Review the IIA SA website terms and conditions, which will need to be accepted as part of the registration process.

If you were unable to upload any of the required documents, please submit via e-mail to membership@iiasa.org.za with the subject line "Membership Documentation Submission" with your account number as indicated on the invoice as a reference or your full name and ID or Passport Number. Please allow 7 - 10 working days for the upload of your documentation submitted via e-mail to be processed.

 

Step 2: Fill in the online registration form

Fill in the Online Application Form, following the steps below:

   

Step 2a: Select the Registration Type:

  • If you are applying for Professional Membership, please select the Member Application option. The class of membership will be determined based on your education and experience. Please click here for more information on the Membership Classes.
  • If you are apply for Student Membership, please select the Full Time Student Member Application option.

Special Note for Full Time Student Applicants

The Student Member Class is reserved for individuals who a full-time students studying internal audit at a recognised academic institution and you will need to submit confirmation with your application. If you are selecting the Full Time Student Member Application option, please make sure you qualfiy for Student Member status. If you apply for Full Time Student Member Application and you do not qualify, your application will be rejected and the application fee will be forfeited.

Special Note for Foreign Applicants:

We do not currently offer membership outside of South Africa. If you have relocated and are currently residing in South Africa, you will be required to meet the same membership rules and requirements as South African citizens as well as the following additional requirements which are in line with the Home Affairs guidelines for granting of work permits under the special skills dispensation:

  • Must have five (5) years post qualification experience in Internal Auditing. The relevant experience must be indicated on the Experience Verification Form
  • All foreign qualifications must be accredited by SAQA, and the SAQA accreditation certificate must be attached with the Qualification.
  • Where there is a local chapter of the IIA applicants must produce a letter of good standing from that Institute. The letter of good standing should contain at minimum, Full name, ID or Passport reference, Membership Number, IIA Global Number, Member join date and Current Expiry date. [Even if the former membership had lapsed, the letter is required to transfer membership to the IIA South Africa in order to prevent a duplicate account being created.]
  • Proof of employment/proof of business registration/proof of registration from a learning institution
  • Certified copy of current VISA / Work Permit

If you hold membership with an IIA Chapter or Affiliate on the African Continent, then we can add you to our database so that you can qualify for the Membership rates on local products and services. If you would like us to add you, please supply a letter of good standing from your local IIA Chapter to membership@iiasa.org.za with the Subject Line "African Affiliate User Registration". The letter of good standing should contain at minimum, your full name, your ID or Passport reference, your Membership Number, IIA Global Number, Member join date and Current Expiry date.

There is no cost for upgrading to an African Affiliate User account, but you will be required to accept the terms and conditions for using the site and related services and you will be required to resubmit a letter of good standing from your local IIA Chapter from time to time, to qualify for membership pricing. Please note that registering as this category of user is not a registration for professional membership of the IIA SA and no rights related to membership will be granted with this type of registration. Your access to the IIA SA Webpages will be limited to Non-Member areas.

   

Step 2b: Select your username and password:

Please create a username for your account and enter your first name and last name. All fields are required.

Please ensure your username contains only letters and/or numbers with no special characters or spaces. You may also enter a valid email address. Example: 'smith123' or 'smith123@yourdomain.com'

Please Note:

  • Multiple Accounts are not permitted and each user must maintain only one account. If you have lost your account details or are upgrading from a non-member category, please contact the IIA SA Membership Department. Please click here for contact details.

  • You will be responsible for each and every access or use of website that occurs in conjunction with use of your username and password. You must not allow any third party to access the Website using your username and password and make use of the Website on your behalf. A user may not nominate another individual to act on their behalf in relation to their use of this website
   

Step 2c: Fill in the required information:

During the registration process you will be asked to provide certain personal information to us. In doing so, you certify that the Information you provide is true, accurate and complete. Users agree to update their details should any of the submitted information change. You specifically agree to provide and maintain a valid e-mail address and to keep the IIA SA informed of any changes to your e-mail address. The e-mail address will be used for most of your communications from the IIA SA. These changes can be made online by logging into the website. Please Note: All information entered during the registration process will be visible to site administrators. Please ensure that you complete all of the fields to avoid any delays.

 

Step 3: Pay your Application Fee

   

If you are registering for IIA SA membership, please note that you will need to pay a non-refundable application fee before your application will be processed. Please click here for the membership fees.

As part of the registration process, an invoice for the application fee will be generated. Click on the link to print your application fee invoice. The banking details as well as the reference number you should use are indicated on the Invoice that has been generated. Please allow 7 - 10 working days for your payment to be allocated and processed. If you have not used the reference number as indicated on the invoice, please submit your proof of payment to debtors@iiasa.org.za so as to assist us in allocating your payment quickly.

If you have not received the invoice, please submit a request for it to be sent you you via e-mail to membership@iiasa.org.za with the subject line "Membership Application Invoice" with your full name and ID or Passport reference in the e-mail. Due to high volumes, please allow 2 - 3 working days for the invoice to be sent to you. If you do not see the message, please check your spam / junk mail folder. We have seen some instances where system e-mails have been sent to the spam or junk folder. Please add the domain 'iiasa.org.za' as a 'safe sender' or check with your IT department that your server is not marking our emails as spam or junk mail to make sure you receive e-mails from us.

Please take note that the ability to login to your profile will only be enabled once your application has been processed. Your application will only be processed once all documentation has been submitted and the application fee has been paid.

Please take note that all documentation and the payment must be received by within 21 days of your application, failing which the application will be cancelled.

  Step 4: Pay your First Year Subscription Fee
   

If your application is approved, you will receive an e-mail confirming your application has been approved as well as an an invoice for your first year's subscription, which must be paid prior to your membership being activated.

Our standard membership year runs from 1 June to 31 May. If you join after December, you will be invoiced half of the membership fee from 1 December - 31 May.

The banking details as well as the reference number you should use are indicated on the Invoice that has been generated. Please allow 7 - 10 working days for your payment to be allocated and processed. If you have not used the reference number as indicated on the invoice, please submit your proof of payment to debtors@iiasa.org.za so as to assist us in allocating your payment quickly.

If you have not received the first year subscription invoice within 14 days of your application fee and documents having been submitted, please submit a request to membership@iiasa.org.za with the subject line "Membership Application Progress" with your your account number as indicated on the invoice as a reference or your full name and ID or Passport Number. Due to high volumes, please allow 2 - 3 working days for a response.

Please take note that if the first year subscription is not within 21 days of your invoice, the application will be cancelled, and the application fee will be forfeighted.

  Step 5: Await your membership certificate
   

Once your application has been activated, your membership certificate will be sent to you via mail. You will receive an e-mail confirming your membership has been activated.

If you have not received the Notice of your Activation within 14 days of your subscription payment having been made, please submit a request for via e-mail to membership@iiasa.org.za with the subject line "Membership Activation Progress" with your your account number as indicated on the invoice as a reference or your full name and ID or Passport Number. Due to high volumes, please allow 2 - 3 working days for a response to your request.

  Step 6: Renew your membership annually
   

Our standard membership year runs from 1 June to 31 May. Membership fees are renewed annually so you would receive an invoice to renew your membership annually, usually in the first week of May.

If your organisation has a a group membership billing arrangement with the IIA SA, your name would be submitted as part of a list for approval and if approved, you would be included on the group's invoice.

If your name is removed from the list, you will be advised by e-mail to update your details and confirm invoicing instructions with us. If you are excluded from the main group invoice, but are still employed by the organisation, you would still qualify for the Group rate, but the rate will only be applicable once the Group's Invoice has been processed.
