Frequently asked questions

I have been an internal auditor for a number of years. Will I be able to go straight into the GIA program without first having to go through the IAT program?

This is possible, but you must go through an assessment process which will be conducted by an IIA SA appointed assessor. If you are assessed as competent, you may enter directly into the GIA program.

If my organization is not interested in the learnership, could I still join the program?

The employer is a crucial role player in the program. Your employer has to provide you with the opportunity to engage in all the activities outlined in the training log book. Furthermore, your employer also has to provide an internal mentor and assessor which are both very important elements in the program. You will therefore not be able to enter the program without the explicit commitment of your employer.

Do I need to have a tertiary qualification to enter the program?

A tertiary qualification is not an absolute requirement, but is highly recommended especially if you want to go further and qualify as a CIA (you need both an academic qualification and experience in order to qualify as a CIA).

If I send my CV to you will you place me in a learnership?

IIA SA does not provide a placement service, but if enquiries are received from employers wanting to recruit trainees for the learnership program, CVs on hand will be forwarded.

Do you have names of organizations that offer Learnership opportunities?

A list of organizations presently involved can be supplied, but you will have to approach them directly.

I have just completed my tertiary studies – can I join a learnership program?

Only if you have secured employment in an internal audit environment and the employer will provide support. Refer to also FQA 2 above.
